a dose of bollywood

I watched the Discovery docu on Bollywood on Monday evening with
Robina. it traced the development of Bollywood and tried to explain
the mystery of why Indian actors like to break out in song and
dance...

also introduced background singers like the legendary Lata Mangeshkar.
she's close 80 and still sound like a young girl!

featured Lagaan (or the first time in history the Indians beat the mat
saleh in cricket!)

the familiar tune of Chaiya Chaiya. suddenly recalled hearing the same
song in the beginning n ending sequences of Inside Man. I don know the
song at that time, but remembered wondering why Spike Lee, an African
American director had used a Bollywood song in his movie.

the docu showed how the actual song was performed in the Bollywood
movie, Dil Se. dancing and singing on top of a moving train in a
winding mountain scenery. I wonder how many dancers fell off the train

the Bollywood dancing in Forbidden City was quite funny to me...
